Two young professional soccer players share a hotel room the night before their first big game. Out of nowhere, one kisses the other.
Nineteen-year-old Jason (Russell Tovey from Looking) and Ade have been football prodigies since they were eight years old. The night before their first Champions League match for a famous London club, they’re sharing a hotel room in Romania.
They should be sleeping, but they’re way too excited. They do everything we imagine footballers in hotel rooms do – skip, snack, wrestle, giggle, talk about girls, fight about training, mock each other, gossip, watch a mate’s sex tape.
And then Jason kisses Ade. The impact of this ‘pass’ echoes through the next ten years of both their lives: a decade of fame and failure, secrets and lies, in a sporting world where image is everything and telling the truth – even to yourself – can be a step too far.
“This is a low-budget, intense film, characterised by the strength of the performances and the crackle of the dialogue. It’s like the bristling, in-your-face brother of Andrew Haigh’s softly contemplative Weekend… It’s fascinating” - Screendaily
